The Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel remains an active monastic establishment to this day. Once Benedictine in character, it has been affiliated with the Jerusalem Monastic Fraternities since 2001. Perched on the isle of Mont-Saint-Michel—which itself sits within the French commune of Le Mont-Saint-Michel in the Manche department of Normandy—the abbey was designated a historic monument in 1862.
