Who processes your data. Controller: Valaroc SRL, Bois d'Hennessy 3, 1310 La Hulpe, Belgium. Company and VAT number: BE 1040.743.385. Write to us at contact@vautledetour.com or use the contact form. Full details are in our legal notice.
What we keep. Your email address (sign-in and notifications) and your first and last name; your travel profile (weighted interests, vehicle, travelling party, pushchair or dog requirements); your routes and the stops you keep; your detour logbook, photos and reviews; your feedback history ("liked" or "not great") to refine your suggestions; the record of your consents (date, type, IP address).
Location. It is never required to create an account or to use the Service. Your browser asks for it at the moment you use it: to build a route from where you are, to trigger the "listen as you drive" audio capsules as you approach a place, and to validate a "visited detour" when you confirm you are there. You may refuse, and everything remains usable by typing in your towns. You may withdraw the permission at any time in your browser or phone settings.
In practice, your positions are not recorded in our database. During a trip they stay in your browser and are used to advance your roadmap. When you validate "I'm here", your position is sent once to our server to check that you are within 4.5 km of the place: only the location of the place is then stored, not yours. When you ask for the name of the town you are in, the coordinates pass through our server and appear, with your IP address, in our technical logs for no more than 14 days.
Legal bases. Providing the service (account, routes, logbook) rests on the contract. Location, partner communications, personalised advertising and audience measurement rest on your consent, given separately and withdrawable at any time without affecting the rest of the Service. Keeping proof of consent and securing the service rest on our legal obligations and our legitimate interest in being able to demonstrate compliance.
Recipients. Your data is processed by our technical processors: Hostinger International Ltd (hosting, France, European Union). When you click through to a partner (GetYourGuide, Booking.com, Winalist, Tiqets and others), that partner processes your data as a separate controller, under its own policy. We sell your data to no one, and a partner receives only what is needed for a booking you start yourself.
Transfers outside the European Union. We transfer no account data outside the European Union: it is hosted and processed in France. Two caveats, which we would rather write down than leave out. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap: displaying a map sends your IP address to the OpenStreetMap Foundation, established in the United Kingdom, a country covered by a European Commission adequacy decision. A place photo may, the very first time it is displayed, be served directly by Wikimedia (United States) before our local copy takes over. Everything else, including the map display libraries, is served from our own servers.
How long we keep it.
Partners and advertising. If you consent, we may pass on partner offers (restaurants, visits, accommodation) and send you suggestions chosen from your interests and your routes. Without your consent, no data is used for targeting. Some booking links are affiliate links: this is stated next to the button concerned, and the detail is in our terms of use.
Audience measurement and trackers. The site measures its traffic only if you accept in the banner. That measurement sets no cookie: each visit is counted under an identifier obtained by hashing your IP address with the current date and a secret key, which makes it useless from one day to the next. What we store on your device, and how to change your mind, is set out on the cookies page.
Our own measurement tool. Since 21 August 2026, audience measurement also uses Matomo, installed on our own servers (collection at valaroc.com/mesure/). No data goes to a third party, there is no advertising and no profiling. Matomo runs without cookies, your IP address is stripped of its last two bytes before storage, and raw data is deleted after 90 days. It only loads once you agree: the site banner and the tool banner count as one answer, so you are asked once. Your refusal is kept on your device and honoured on every page.
Automated decisions. The ranking of suggested stops is computed from your preferences. It has no legal effect and merely sorts travel suggestions.
Your rights. You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and you may withdraw your consent at any time. Your profile is editable from your account, where you will also find the export and deletion of your data. For any request: contact@vautledetour.com. We answer within one month.
Complaints. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, autoriteprotectiondonnees.be, or with the supervisory authority of your country of residence.
Information security. Our systems and practices are aligned with ISO/IEC 27001:2022 (security policy, risk register, tested encrypted backups, periodic reviews), without formal certification to date.
Changes. This policy may change. Any substantial change will be notified to you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. The date of the last update is at the top of this page.
