Yet the palace itself dates back to the early 17th century, when Marie de Médicis—Queen of France and Navarre—commissioned its construction during her regency, drawing architectural inspiration from Florence's Palazzo Pitti. Beyond the main palace, the Senate's domain extends to include the Petit Luxembourg (the Senate President's residence), the Musée du Luxembourg, and the magnificent gardens surrounding it all.
